Lease Accounting for tenants with SAP Business ByDesign based on IFRS 16 / ASC 842
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued a standard in 2016 with regard to lease accounting: IFRS 16 and ASC 842 It affects companies that report under IFRS or US GAAP and are involved in leasing. It requires tenants to include assets and liabilities for most of their leases.
Below a number of sources on this subject:
Grant Thornton: Insights into IFRS 16
PwC: Lease Accounting Guide (ASC 842)
KPMG: IFRS 16 – Leasehandboek
Deloitte: de Deloitte-routekaart voor het toepassen van ASC 842
The new functionality consists of creating lease contracts, recording valuation and automatically creating user rights for leased objects and booking lease contracts. An automatic supplier invoice based on lease contracts is optionally available.
Note: Lease Accounting is only available for selected customers who participate in the Lease Accounting Controlled Availability Program. If you want to participate in this program, create an incident with medium priority, enter the “IFRS 16 CA” prefix in the subject and a contact person along with contact details. Once the program has been successfully completed, all customers can use it.

HR: Employee Master Data Report
Customers have often said that they want to keep track of whether employees change data related to bank details, biographical details, private address, etc. via employee self-service functions. This report helps administrators know which employees have been updated with a specific period. This is achieved through the “Modified Within Period” search parameter – all employees whose data have been changed within the selected period (which is set to Current Month by default) are part of the result of this report. This report provides an overview of all employees whose master data (Employee, Work Agreement) have changed in a certain period, for example the current month. With the help of this report the user can view the biographical details, the workplace and the private address, payment and bank information, work agreement and organization details. There are various pre-delivered report views that help to make this information available quickly and easily. The Validity period selection parameter allows the user to choose whether to view the snapshot of data that is valid from a specific date, or all records that are valid during a specific period.

Project Management: Enhanced Team Member Work Analysis – Period Plans
With the August 2019 release of SAP Business ByDesign, the Project Period Plans are integrated into the “Team Members Work Analysis” report in the Project Management Work Center.
As project leader, work packages are defined and staffed with project team members. Because the work packages extend over the entire time frame of the task, more detailed planning must also be made within the planning period for the individual work packages. To reach an agreement with the relevant stakeholders of the project, a baseline is made and only from there a change in the planning is implemented. This baseline is then activated. The project has started and some changes in the planning have been made that you have maintained in the operational project.
Now, you can answer questions like the following:
- What are the planned efforts for the project team members, including a detailed overview of the period plan information that you have maintained in the project?
- How did the planned work change compared to the active baseline including the period plan information?
- What were the planning changes in the operational project compared to the active baseline?
- Which planning only happened in the baseline?
- Which planning only happened in the operational project?
